This Summer, we're running a "Summer Series" tournament. This is for people who want to play some proper full length rated games in the off season and will mimic the format of the successful Billingham club Summer event. Players need to be ECF members to take part and there will be a trophy for the winner.
The format will be like the Club Championship, 90 minutes each, 6 rounds using the Swiss system. Games will be every other week on the normal club nights. As this is obviously during the holiday season, you can take as many half point byes as you want to. Even if you just want to get in a couple of competitive games in August, that is fine. I will be drawing the next round on the Wednesday before each round, so you will need to let me know at least a week in advance if you want a half point bye, otherwise it will be a zero point bye. Inexperienced players can choose a zero point bye instead of a half point bye if they prefer, to help get a closer match up in the next round.
Unless arranged in advance, anyone not there by quarter past 7 will lose by default. If there is more than one player without a game, they will be paired together even if they have already played each other. Everyone who is there is guaranteed a rated game on the night, if necessary we will get a guest player who has not entered to step in! The emphasis is on everyone getting games rather than a totally fair competition!
This is a great chance to do 2 things:
-Get some extra rated games in and practice for the new season. People from our club who have played in the Billingham one before, usually start the season well.
-Challenge yourself against A and B division players. There's no better way of ensuring games at the higher levels than showing you can beat the players who play there!
