Ladder

At our 2022 AGM we decided to start a "ladder" competition. It's a way of getting some competitive games without too much at stake and it means any new players we get can take part in something straight away if they want to. The person at the top of the ladder at the end of the season is the champion! Don't forget to let Chris know any results!

LADDER RULES

-The games will be 30 minutes each and rapid rated.
-Players in the club with no ECF membership can still take part, but not all of these games will be rated (only the first 6 played).
-Players in the top 10 can challenge anyone up to 3 places above them on the ladder.
-If you are from 11th-20th you can challenge anyone up to 4 positions above you and if you are 21st or lower you can challenge someone up to 5 positions above you.
-Anyone new to the ladder can challenge someone in the bottom 5 places.
-If the lower player beats the higher player, they swap places on the ladder. A draw and the positions stay the same.
-It won't always be possible, but players should try to alternate between defending and challenging. Multiple games can be played on one night.
-A challenge should be played within 3 weeks. Refusing a challenge without a good reason means the places swap anyway.
-Challenger gets to choose colour.
-You can't play the same person twice in a row.
-To help people find games, if both players agree you can play someone else who is anywhere on the ladder. The rules about refusing challenges do not apply in these cases.
-Anyone not visiting the club or playing any matches for 3 months is removed from the ladder and has to start again.
-Anyone not playing any ladder matches during a season is removed from the ladder at the start of the next season and has to start again.
